DeleteMusic has always been a small passion of mine. After taking this class, I have learned so much about the history and beginnings of this beautiful art. It is crazy to think how much music has evolved in the past 500 years. Also, I can now recognize traits in music that I could not before, like if a song is dissonant, jagged, smooth, what the genre is, etc... One day in the near future I would love to learn how to play the guitar and begin to compose my own pieces of art. Overall, this class has made my listening skills superb and it is safe to say that the attributes I have acquired over this semester will stay with me for quite some time.

DeleteMusic has always been a huge part of my life. I cannot read music and if you ask those around me they will tell you that I am tone deaf. However, I connect music to every aspect of my life. Every chance I get, I partake in something to better my knowledge of an artist or of a certain genre of music. When I am sad or going through rough times with my health, I play music. When I am happy and want to celebrate life, I play music. When I am lying around with nothing to do, I play music. This class has taught me the basic backbone to music. It has taught me what to listen for and how to understand what the composer was trying to portray in their work. I have always enjoyed classical music and this class just heightened my interest to that genre. I am planning to eventually become a speech language pathologist. Many people who have trouble with speech, connect better with music and having a background understanding of music will help me help those people. I plan on taking another music class to continue to gain knowledge in this area. Music is, and always will be, a huge part of my life.

DeleteI didn't know what to expect going into this class. It was one of my most enjoyable classes this semester. I never realized how much music of the past is in everyday life today like in movies and commercials. Classical music is a big part of today's society. This will help me in the future because I am an early childhood education major so I plan on being a teacher, to get students to memorize and learn material its always easier to but it to song or a beat. Im happy with how I performed in the class and what it taught me.

DeleteI didn't expect this music class to effect me the way that it has. I never thought it was possible to listen to music in the way we did. After listening to the certain of music in this class and having to learn the different parts of music, I listen to all music with an open mind now. Even though I know how to read music and play an instrument I still learned things I never knew. I now understand how much work is put into one song and how far music has come since it was composed. This class has taught me to be patient when it comes to studying and to start early. Also, If I want to get something out of anything I am in, I must apply myself and work for it. I would love to take another music class to gain more knowledge about music because I will always love music even if it is not my favorite style being played.

DeleteI played the trumpet in band from 5th grade until I graduated high school. I thought I knew a lot about music and that this class was going to be a breeze, boy was I wrong. This class was interesting and challenging. I found trying to remember all of the different terms and listening sections quite difficult. I was intrigued that people were able to use instruments out of the little technology that they had when instruments were first invented. I also found the different types of music eras and what influenced the changes in music very interesting. This class will help me in the future because I will now be able to analyze the music I listen to and also this class helped me learn to think critically about a lot which will help me during my career. Overall, I am glad I took this class.
Kenneth Rankin
Deletesomething I truly enjoyed was in the class was that we learned about the evolution of music. how music from all different ears changed the way we thought about music. I didn't think some of the composers we learned about were so innovative for there time. I also thought learning about the elements of music was interesting, Things like key and tonality all the way to parallel chords were fascinating to learn about. This class gave me anew appreciation for music and I respect the composers of old because without them we probably wouldn't have the music we all enjoy today.

DeleteFrom taking this course I have learned a great deal about the different styles and genres of music. Also, i now have a greater appreciation for all of the different styles of music which are around and while at first i felt as though i would not enjoy any of the musical listenings, it came to a surprise to me that i actually enjoyed a few of them. On the other hand, this class has not really altered my music listening habits, in that i will not choose to listen to any of the selections which i heard in class, however, i now have a greater appreciation for what musicians do and the hard work they they must do in order to perform any piece. I will apply the knowledge that i learned from this class to my career because i am an avid listener of all different types of music and in a sense, can find peace and relaxation from listening to the music that i enjoy.
Carrie Forgay
DeleteBefore this class music was just something I listened too and never thought anything else other than if I did or didn't like the song I heard. Now I listen with a stronger sense as to the genre, instruments, harmony, texture, etc. used to create it. I consider all the techniques I have acquired in this class. I have a much better understanding as to what the musician or musicians have put into their creation of it. The hard work and dedication it takes on their part. I must say after hearing pieces from all different eras my eyes have been opened to new elements and concepts of music. Something I never considered before. I have learned many different musical terms that I now have a much better understanding of to take with me from this class. I have enjoyed this class way beyond my expectations of what I was expecting from the beginning, especially coming into it with no musical background at all.

DeleteThis class didn't influence me all to much because i am and have been heavily involved in music since a young age. I am very passionate about music and this class did add to that. I did love learning about the different periods and how the music was influenced by them. I hope that in the future I am able to still be as involved with music as I am now. Though it does not directly apply to my future career I will always have it be connected to my life. Going into this course I did know how to identify music and i was aware of the mechanics of it. That did help my considerably. All in all i did enjoy this class. It was interesting and learning about music is always fun.

DeleteAfter taking this class I now understand the importance of music and its history. I did not think the music from the eras we discussed would interest me. But learning and listening to it gave me a better appreciation of past music and the struggles they had to overcome. My favorite part of the class was being able to listen to the wide variety of music from many years ago. It opened my horizon to different genres of music. This music has benefited me personally because I know listen to classical music as a stress reliever. This was important discovery for me and will benefit me in the future. Thank you Professor Collins for you time and commitment. It is very obvious when you teach you are passionate about music and it is much appreciated.
Alexandra Vazquez
ReplyDeleteIn this class, I have learned how to identify music from a variety of different eras leading all the way up to contemporary music. I have also learned how to identify composers and genres of these pieces. What I will take from this class is the skill of being able to pick out different instruments in songs, and I will take with me the appreciation for well-composed music. My future career will hopefully be in broadcast communications, assuming I have the ability to get a job in this economy. I will apply the knowledge that I have acquired from this class to my career as I take courses in communications related to radio, even though I do plan to do television. MTV and VH1 have a great way of incorporating music within this field of study, and now that I know where music began, I can incorporate my own knowledge.

ReplyDeleteThis music class has influenced me in many ways. This class has given me the knowledge of music that we do not listen to as much today as a teenager. I have learned more about classical music and romantic music and other eras. I learned how to identify the textures and form of a song as well. It showed me how different music was and its was actually entertaining to listen to. I never really had a love for music but it opened my eyes to how music is made and how different it can be. I will apply this class into my life when i become a scientist and i could experiment and do studies on music.
Ashley Sims
ReplyDeleteIn high school I was very passionate about music. I traveled long distances to disreputable areas in unfamiliar cities to see any and every band play. Eventually, I got tired of music. It became monotonous, boring, and unoriginal. It was not until I took this class that my passion for music was re-ignited. Learning and listening to music of the greatest musicians in history inspired me learn piano again. I started when I was very little; so long ago that the reason I stopped is completely forgotten. However, by expanding my mind and once again taking up an art I have become more diligent in my studies because like music, studying takes practice, hard work, and determination.
Carissa Morenci
ReplyDeleteI have a deeper understanding of the creation of the music I listen to today. I do not think this class influenced my music choices now or in the future because I enjoy mostly anything. I tend to use music as an outlook for stress, to add to my creativity, a motivator at the gym, and just for fun. I really enjoy music but I would prefer to listen to newer songs in class. I think I have a decent background in music after this class.
Kirstyn Greco
ReplyDeleteI have learned how to recognize different aspects to music including the texture, melody, harmony, genre, etc. Taking this class has opened my eyes to a variety of various types of music. Now I am able to enjoy music in different eras. I am studying Early Childhood Education here at East Stroudsburg and hope to be able to pass on the knowledge I acquired in this class to my students one day.
This class has allowed me to better understand all the aspects of music. Weather that be from a contemporary era or one from hundreds of years ago. Although i found some things challenging, i enjoyed pushing my limits to see how much i could actually achieve. the course also gave me an insight on what too look for when listening to music.

ReplyDeleteI didn't expect this music class to effect me the way that it has. I did not think it was possible to listen to music educationally. After listening to the musical selections in this class and having to learn the different elements and aspects of music, I listen to all music with a different perspective. I do not just turn the radio up and listen anymore. I feel the need to pick out parts of a song including the texture, melody, harmony, and other aspects to take away an educated opinion. I understand how much work is put into one song and how far music has come since it originated. This class has taught me to not judge a book by its cover and to think things through before making a decision. It has also taught me to be patient when it comes to studying. If I want to achieve something, I must apply myself and work towards it. These are lessons I will use the rest of my life. This class has been a great influence on me and I would recommend it.
In the begging of the semester I really did not think anything of music, I just thought it as a class that I had to take. Now after going through music class I learned that you will need it in the future. In the future when you are in a job interview, and you have music down as one of the things you did in school, the interviewer would look at you as well rounded person. Subjects like music help us get into our careers. We do not see it in the begging, but when we take the class we understand why. As I listen to songs now on the radio I understand how much hard work they put into that one song. I feel this class help me appreciate music more in my life, and it will in the future.

ReplyDeleteAs an exercise science major I will truthfully say that I am not well versed in the fine arts. I am a science guy who thought nothing of music, except that it was for entertainment. After being exposed to various types of music and doing further research on my own I found some interesting aspects of music that also affect the world of sport and performance. After my curiosity was sparked i found that many Olympians use calming music before they compete. I also discovered that studies on people exercising to upbeat music impacted their performance output positively. this class indirectly showed me that certain areas in life do not stand alone, but are influenced by others more than the unknowing eye can see. Such as music in the world of sports.

DeleteBefore taking this class I did not know much about music. Through out this class i learned more about how music actually comes together. It taught me the hard work that musicians put into their work and how dedicated they are to a piece of music.I learned about all the different types of music there are out there. I did not think much of music just a class that I had to take but it has taught me many different things. This will help in the future, because for job interviews, when they see you have music down as something you took in College it makes you're application look better. With the music class i think that i know a good amount of information about music.
ReplyDeleteBurns:
ReplyDeleteI believe that taking this course has benefited me minimally. Studying for tests stimulated my mind, so I consider that a benefit. Also, to my surprise, I enjoyed a few of the pieces from the listening sections that I may listen to in the future. Although I do not believe that I benefited a great deal from this course perhaps my opinion may change in the future.

ReplyDeleteWhen I stepped into this class I did not really know why I was in that class. I was in band for 8 years. I thought I was done with music. But i learned a lot of new things in this class. I also enjoyed a few of the pieces that we listened to. In my career music will be a bigger part of the job then everyone thinks. Physical Therapists play music so that their patients feel welcomed into their work area. I remember volunteering at a Physical Therapist office and we had music playing all the time. I am glad that I had the class and learned a lot of new things.

ReplyDeleteBefore taking this class I knew very little about music and it's history. Now that I have learned so much about the past and how certain genres of music came about, I am more open to listening different types of music that I wouldn't have chosen earlier this year. I now hear songs played on tv shows or in movies that we listened to in class. Intro to music has very helped me become more diverse in my music selection.
Abby Koval
ReplyDeleteI was not expecting to enjoy this class as much as I did. I was surprised that I knew as many songs from different eras as I do. I thought it was interesting how many are used in the media today. I think this class will definitely help me in the future, especially when it comes to job interviews. This class taught me better study habits, especially dealing with memorization. I'm glad I took this course.
Before taking Intro to Music this semester, I knew very little about the fundamentals of music. I also knew very little about the history of music and how it has progressed through time. The class has introduced me to various different types of genres ranging from chamber music to symphony. I also learned to distinguish the difference between musical terms such as harmony and melody. Aside from the terms, the listening has helped me to identify several famous pieces when they are on TV or on the radio. Overall, I would take away different study habits I used during this class such as creating study guides in order to memorize all the material.
ReplyDeleteFrom the intro to music course I have learned more about the elements of music than I had expected. I had taken music courses including choir in high school so I figured that I already understood most of the concepts, but this was entirely incorrect. I’m now familiar with the more in depth elements of music and how it evolved to be what it is today. I’m a psychology major so I think that maybe music could be applied to certain kinds of therapy that can be used.

ReplyDeleteI did not originally want to take a music class in college because I never understood the scales in relation to notes. I thought this class would be more of the same and that I would end up failing the class. In this class I learned about the concepts of music which made me appreciate it more. Learning the history of music was interesting to see how it evolved into what we get today. I liked listening to the various compositions. I have a deeper understanding of music and what goes into it and a deeper appreciation.
This was one of my favorite classes of the semester. This class gave me a whole new respect for music. Although I played an instrument and performed music for a large portion of my life, some of the things that were taught in this class I had never heard of before. I feel that the information I learned will help me expand not only as a student, but as a musician as well. I no longer look at music as merely lyrics. I feel like I have reached a deeper level of listening. Not only have I gained respect for the complexity of music, but I have also learned how many different “parts” of music there are. In addition, I was surprised to learn about how much music from the past eras is still around today.

I did not want to take this class in the beginning since i had music and band when i was younger. But when I took this class it did teach me a few new things. This class hasn't really influenced my choices in music. In my career path there is no music played or heard. But this class has helped me learn new things i would have never known.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw this music class on my schedule I thought I would end up dropping this class. Music has nothing to do with my major so I questioned it. Music is more than just notes and lyrics its apart of everything. This class showed me what music is made of and the different sections of time that created music. The music has to do with major in the fact that I have to help people talk and sing again. Music affects everyday life because different songs show different peoples interests. I found the type of music I like to listen to. I that found that music helps to explain life and show how to get through everyday things.
ReplyDeleteMorgan Firestine
ReplyDeleteBefore taking this class I knew absolutely nothing about music and how it originated. I did not have to take a music class in high school so I knew nothing walking into this class. After taking this class I have learned all about music and it's history. I feel like after this class I am more open to different genres of music that I would have turned away from before this class. Before Intro to music I had a very limited selection of music, but now I have a more diverse selection of music. Music is heard everywhere everyday, it is a bigger part of peoples lives than they think. Learning the basics makes you appreciate music on a different level. I am very surprised as to how much I learned and appreciated from Intro to music.
Janelle Fernandez
ReplyDeleteBefore taking this class, I have had some musical background. I was part of my school's dance team, choir, and musical. I came into this class knowing most of the vocabulary and musical genres but I quickly discovered there was much more to music then what i was taught in high school. This class widened my perspective on music and the way it has and will impact humans today.

ReplyDeleteTaking this introduction to music course, I thought it was going to be boring and a waste of my time. This course was everything but boring and a waste of my time, I learned a lot. I learned the history of music and where it comes from. Also, I learned all the different concepts of music and how its made. I now have a deeper understanding of music and how hard it is to make. Also, in this course I thought it was interesting listening to all the different listenings in class. I appreciated music even more from taking this course.
J Fazio
ReplyDeleteI did not know much of anything about the fundamentals of music going into this class. By the end of this course I feel like a have a good amount of knowledge about how to find texture, tune and form in music. I did not know there much that much that went into music. Also, I enjoyed learning about the different eras of music such as Romantic, Renaissance, and Baroque. I learned many different musical terminology. I am a business major so music does not really apply to what I am doing. However it will help if I ever have music related clients. At least at that point I will have a general understanding of music and be able to small talk. I enjoyed this class much more than i thought I would. I actually liked the attendance policy because I learned a lot more than I would have if there was not. If I was not a senior and had my second semester already picked I would seriously consider taking another music class.

I must admit that when I first saw I was taking this class I was a little skeptical at first, but now having completed the semester I am very glad I got to experience it. This class has opened up my eyes to music in a completely new way. It is amazing to see how much music has evolved through the years to get to where it is today. Professor Collins is a great teacher. I remember her stating in the beginning of the semester how taking this class will show that I am a well rounded person and I truly believe that. At times, this class was challenging, but that is like any class. Classes must challenge you to learn. I am so happy I had the opportunity to take this class. I am now very confident in my ability to identify music and the specific characteristics that make it up.
Thank you,
Andrea Polanco

ReplyDeleteWhen I first found out I had been enrolled in this class, I thought it was an unfortunate event, as I assumed a study of music could never really assist with or pertain to my area of focus for my studies. Upon finishing out this class, however, I realize my enrollment in it was quite a serendipitous event, and one that will most certainly continue to affect my life. From now on, when I listen to music, I will more fully be able to appreciate it, and I will be more knowledgeable in what I am listening to. I am now able to hear music and decipher its melody, texture, etc. From this class I have actually discovered a great appreciation and love for music within myself that was unknown until now. Yes, I learned about different genres and composers; but more importantly, I learned something new about myself, and that is the most profound thing anyone can take away from any class. I sincerely thank you for my experience.

ReplyDeleteThis class hasn't really influenced my taste or choices in music, but it did give me insight on where or why music sounds the way it does (I never really thought that music could express the emotion of people in the time it was written). I honestly don't believe that I have the brain to understand music, I simply enjoy the sounds I hear- for example, if someone who has never played the drums before sat down and started to bang out a catchy rhythm, I would enjoy it as much as if an experienced musician were to play some kind of rhythm. They only way I really connect with music is when I'm in the car, listening to the radio or my iPod. I only sometimes actually stop and take a moment to listen to the lyrics, sometimes a catchy and happy tune is actually expressing a sad or terrible story and that's pretty interesting. One of the things I found cool about the class was how some of the compositions we learned about were actually songs we already knew but never had the chance to learn about. Like "movie music" and whatnot. I'm not really sure how I will use what I learned in this class in the future, but who knows? Maybe a situation here or there will surface and I will have to reach into my mind and pull out a music-related answer. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens. Overall the class was enjoyable, the 90% grade based on exams was questionable, buuuut the listening portion was at least fun.
ReplyDeleteThis class didn't change my preference in music but it defiantly changed the way I listen to music. It also made me appreciate the complexity of music in the past and how much different music is today. However, I do not think I will start listening to classical music all the time but this class did make me realize how complex and interesting music of the past can be. It was also interesting to see how music changed as the world changed ( through the different time periods). I have always enjoyed music and always try to go to as many concerts as I can in the summer , I will try to use what I learned in this class to better understand the music I am listening to. In all I enjoyed this class a lot more than I thought I would and I'm glad I made this class my choice for my music requirement.

ReplyDeleteI've always liked music; I was in band/chorus from when it started up until I graduated. This class encouraged me to go forward and do more with my flute, since I really enjoy playing it. That's why I asked you for staff paper. This class also encouraged me to learn to play the piano. I've always wanted to learn, but never went through with it. When I have the time, I will now. It helped me appreciate older composers like Back, Beethoven, Mozart, etc. since I actually like a few of their compositions. I feel like I can play the pieces well and it enlightens me to do so. This class won't really help me with my major but it is an interest of mine that I would like to know more about. Overall, I liked the class. I learned a few new things.
Music is a big part in everyone's everyday life. You hear music almost everywhere. People use music to get pumped up, be in a state of tranquility, to get focused, or just to have a good time; music can be used in many different ways. I was never into studying the history of music throughout the world, but as time went on during the semester I got enjoyment out of studying the history of music. This class really taught me the downs and highs different genre's of music had. "One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain." - Bob Marley. This quote couldn't describe music any better because music puts you in a different state of mind, it puts you in your own world. This world could be a world of sadness or happiness. Without music the world wouldn't be the same, it influences people every single day in some way. This class also taught me how to really listen to music to find out if that song is good or not. I don't think this class helped me with any other of my classes, I couldn't really find a connection between them. Overall I had fun in this class and learned a lot of new things.
ReplyDeleteJamie Thomas
ReplyDeleteI heard intro to music and thought that I would be dealing with playing actual instruments, since I play the piano I was excited.I later found out that it was learning the history of music…UH history, not my forte, so I was planning on dropping the class…but I'm glad I didn't. It was more than just interesting facts and history of music but also HOW the music was created. The different styles, sounds, meaning, purpose all jumbled to create the perfect piece. I was never a fan of opera but I did like Classical music. This class has slightly altered my taste towards opera music. it's so soothing to hear a note at a high pitch without a crackle. Still not a fan of Jazz, haha. There were a lot of new things that I did not know about music, a lot more than just the title and name of the artist. I enjoyed this class very much.
Kayla Borel
ReplyDeleteMy music experience from this class has definitely changed my approach to music. Before this class, I thought I had an expanded horizon. I realized that was not the case. Taking this class has opened up my mind to may different types of music and I must say that I've enjoyed the sections we have listened to. This class has influenced my music choices by force in a very good way. For example had I not taken this class, I would not enjoy or even be interested in opera music the way I am now. It's unbelievable. That was probably one of many of my favorite sections to listen to. I surprised myself when I found enjoyment because I used to not see the point or the highlight in opera music. Based on this class alone, I want to go to an opera at some point in the near future. I feel as though I will be able to enjoy it as well as appreciate it. Knowing the different parts to the opera, and being full of knowledge about it just makes it that much more meaningful!
This also was a very intellectually stimulating class. Learning about the sonata - allegro form was tough but beneficial as well. The "ordinary classical" music I have listened to (before this class) such as Beethoven for example, I would have never thought to analyze music like that. It just makes it so much more enjoyable to listen to, now that I know what I am listening for and talking about. Not only is it enjoyable but I now can identify certain parts of it and know what iI'm talking about thanks to JC!! In high school four years ago, I took a music class and it was nothing compared to this. I wouldn't even consider it a successful music class. Yes you do learn about the instruments and parts of music and all but I just feel that after THIS class, it was all too basic. Not that what I've learned years ago was pointless because it did help. However, it was a waste of a year for a class, something that should be incorporated in a different music class in other ways. This class in particular has given me information and skills worth having. Such as the different eras, the different composers, even though I hate history, the history presentations were worth listening to.
Being a nursing major and having this class I feel makes me more well rounded. Music Therapy is used in many health care settings. For example: stress relief, sleep promotion, and alternative medicine to name a few. I can without a doubt use my knowledge from this class to enhance my patients lives. Even just the little details makes all the difference in patient care.
This class was probably one of the best GE's Ive taken in my four years here. I am glad I took this class! I seriously can't wait to go to a real live opera one day! Lol.

ReplyDeleteI am very glad that took this course, I was not going to on the account that i was not sure what i would take out of this class. I came to realize that this intro to music class would help me a lot with my study habits. I realized after the first test in this class that you could not just study the night before the class and expect to do well so I starting studying throughout the week or over the weekend for this class and others and my grades on my second round of exams was much better than the first. I never really liked listening to classical music before I took this class, but i realized that there are so many songs with so many different beats that they can be used for so much as far as studying, just chilling, or getting pumped up before a workout or a game. Classical music is actually really a good genre to listen to because I can stay focused on my school work while listening to it. Some other GE I would always dread going to because they where not interesting and you have to go and sit there and listen to them talk, however we got the opportunity to work in groups in your class. I rather enjoyed this intro to music class thank you!

ReplyDeleteI thought this class would be easy for me because I did band 4th grade until 11th grade, coming to find out this class wasn't as easy as I thought. At the beginning it was easy and I had interest. After about the second week, I lost interest in the class. It helped me with my studying habits with memorizing things here and there but after the first exam, I just didn't care anymore and you could tell that in my other two exams before my final. Learning about old music history just doesn't give me motivation to do well. If we listened to more older music like 1960-present time, I would definitely give more consideration in liking the class. I'm a criminal justice and sociology major and all this class has helped me with is memorizing which is helpful now and will be helpful in the future. Even though this class wasn't for me, Thank you for teaching me what I had to know about olden day music!
Kristina Caprio
ReplyDeleteComing into this class I did not think I would get any thing out of it. I believe now after finishing this class it helped my study habits the most. The exams were information that I didn't already know. I had to study and memorize the terms in order to do well. Overall, I didn't really enjoy this class. I will never use these terms or the listening information in my future, so I do not see the need for music class.
Alyssa Dinko
ReplyDeleteI was not expecting what this class consisted of. I thought it would simply be just reading music and being able to relate to different instruments. I played the flute from fourth to ninth grade so I figured I would get through it without a problem. However; this class concentrated on many different things from terms to history to listening. I thought the history of music was the most interesting to compare and contrast. I just cannot imagine back in the day of artists going out to record sounds to insert into their songs. Overall this class taught me how to analyze music in the future and to question different sounds throughout it.

ReplyDeleteThis class influenced my music choices in regards to listening to classical music, I have a great appreciation for this type of music. I enjoyed being more educated on the pieces and the composers. The eras which I enjoyed and appreciated the most were the classical era and the romantic era, I have found that listening to this music while studying or driving is very relaxing and eases my thoughts. I believe that music is and will always be a part of my future, all music holds a story or a memory, sometimes it motivates you, other times music is a comfort for when one is feeling down, but I can see music as being a part of me in the future. It is also a nice feeling when I can even recognize some of the pieces we heard in class on a tv show or even on a tv commercial. Overall, the class to me personally was enjoyable I appreciate music, specially like I mentioned before the romantic and classical eras were a pleasure to listen to minus a few but most were soothing and beautiful.

ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw that I was enrolled in this class I really wasn't that happy. I never liked learning about music, but as time went by I became more and more interested. I learned alot of new things and kept myself pretty organized. As the semester is coming to an end, I believe I will try to keep these same habits since I did so well in the class.

ReplyDeleteI have never really taken a music class such as this before. It was new learning experience and introduced me to music I have not heard before. This class has not influenced my music choices but I was able to appreciate some of the music we listened to.

ReplyDeleteWhen I first decide to join Intro to Music I honestly thought that it was going to be a breeze. Little did I know, there is a entirely different world of music that goes far more in depth that I ever thought possible. It seemed as if their was a whole other language in art that i had never heard of. My favorite type of music that we studied was the music which came from the classical music era. I just thought that it was so interesting to see how these tremendous orchestras, with huge symphonies, along with there conductors, play and produce their music. I also have always thought that it is never a bad thing to broaden your interests. You never know when you may have a job opportunity with a boss who is a classical buff, with something to connect with I may just get the job. In retrospect I am grateful that this class was not as easy as I initially thought. It pushed me from my comfort zone and into a world of music I didn't know existed.
In the beginning of the semester I looked at this class an opportunity for an easy "A." I had been involved in my high school's orchestra for 6 years so I pictured this class as a review. A lot of the things that were taught in this class, I already knew. But there were some things that were new to me. I learned about the different eras a little more in depth with this class. I learned to have a much greater appreciation with the music of past eras because without it, the music we all know and love today would not be the same. I have always liked classical music so listening to it in class was nice and relaxing. It was great listening to some of my favorite composers too! I enjoyed listening to Appalachian Spring by Copland because my brother plays this song every time he's home. It was nice to hear it during class because I could relate it to my personal life. With that said, I think this class was a great learning opportunity. I think taking a music class gives someone the chance to become a more well-rounded person.

ReplyDeleteThis class showed me a lot of music and songs from different eras. Some songs I liked while others I didn't. I already have a wide variety of music I listen to, but the class showed me even more music. The class also helped me in memorizing topics and words and how to associate the word or topic with something to make it easier to memorize. The class helped me a lot with study habits.

ReplyDeleteThis class has broaden my taste in music and showed how different music can get. I can connect life to music in many ways it is all around us also movies, tv and entertainment in general. The history aspect I learned in this class I can connect to other classes and the psychological affect music can have on a human being. It can relax you, make you feel sad, happy and many other emotions depending on the type of music you listen to. This music class really helped me with memorizing and make sure i studied to be prepared for the exams. I have been in band all my schooling so it was nice to come to college as a freshman and still have some music curriculum in my learning experience. It helped me a great deal for my future knowing my history about music and knowing the classic movements and how music was changed over time.

ReplyDeleteThis course definitely exceeded my expectations and found most of the course very interesting. The listening portion of the class was what I enjoyed most. Listening to the various composers, and pieces in different era's really showed me diversity in music. Even after this one class I find myself being able to recognize some famous pieces that were played in class, and knowing some history behind it.
At the beginning of this semester, I looked at this class as an "easy A". After the first exam, my expectations were correct. However after the first exam, it got tougher and tougher. I listen to music all and everyday, but never really cared to know what it all started from. This class gave me a little bit more insight on the makings of music. This class is no breeze, but i appreciated it.
ReplyDeleteThis class is very good for someone who's trying to figure out their path in music or which road to head down. The professor gives you much information for tests and quizzes and explains very well. The class is active by listening to music and keeping you involved by researching topics with groups in class. Thank you for the experience and happy holidays!
